“Stewardship is about being grateful, responsible stewards of the gifts we receive from God.” (The Reverend Laurel Johnston, Episcopal Church Officer for Stewardship). Stewardship is gratefully accepting our proper position as caretakers of God’s many blessings, which have been entrusted to us to use to advance God’s will for creation. This position is a blessing, which properly understood will bring peace and health, to us individually and as a community, as we seek ways to live balanced lives in the midst of a culture of rampant consumerism that encourages overwork, anxiety, and stress.
The Stewardship Team at St. George’s focuses on encouraging members and friends of the parish to consider this theology of stewardship and how our lives might better reflect it. While one task the team assumes is the fall financial pledge campaign, this team also provides opportunities to reflect on various aspects of stewardship as discipleship, through educational and conversational events offered several times during the year.
