Rev. Jim Gambril Provides Luncheon Lecture on Flashpoints between Science and Christianity.
Rev. Jim Gambril presented his 21st lecture to the St. George’s community on March 24. He explored the formal church’s clash with the heliocentric teaching of Galileo Galilei and recounted the longstanding battles regarding the age of the planet and the evolution/creation of humans. With reference to the famous Scopes Trial, he reminded those gathered that the battles pitting Darwin’s theory of Natural Selection against Creationism and Intelligent design still rage.
As we explored the advance and expansion of science, Rev. Gambril asked how faith remained relevant and meaningful. He proposed ways Christianity embraces scientific discovery and celebrates God’s role in human advancement.
